A sample letter with alternating directions
By rotating cards in different positions, completely new patterns emerge.
The warping letter here (picture at the very bottom) is the same as the one on the page Sample Letter I. The direction of rotation of individual cards is changed, however.
However, with different lines, the direction of rotation of individual cards is changed.
It can be clearly seen in the band section [right] that cards 5-7 and 11-13 have a different pattern. They are longer and run parallel to the tape rather than in an S or Z turn. This results from reversing the direction of rotation at the respective row positions. The thread stays longer at the top of the tape before disappearing under the weft thread due to the change in twist direction.
Cards 1 / 2 / 15 / 16 are always turned forwards and cards 3 / 4 / 8 - 10 / 14 are always turned backwards. Here the diamond pattern remains.
After every second weft the shuttle is at the starting position. Either to the left or right of the band, depending on how you start.
You can also observe that the same holes appear at the top front. A or C or is the shuttle on the other side B and D. You can also use this fact to check the progress of the weaving.
